Vestiges
With this set of paintings, I wish to evoke our end (as a civilisation as well as an individual). All civilisations were built on quest for territory, power and wealth... the same quest also brought them down. History repeats itself as if evolution hits a wall. The sum of our experiences models the individual as well as humanity.
In the same way, these paintings show surfaces wearing the marks of time. The process used here applies the same mechanism of alteration: accumulation of layers (paper, paste and colour) submitted to different sanding and polishing procedures - their wearing-out acting as a construction process, a metaphor of our evolution.
